Jackie Robinson

The Start of Jackie's Baseball Career

In 1945, Jackie Robinson joined the Kansas City Monarchs, a Negro League team. While on the team, Robinson hit a remarkable .387 batting average.  During the time period that he was on the team he was constantly scouted by Dodger's president, Branch Rickey. Rickey was heavily impressed by Robinson and he was the only African American to be chosen to be on the Dodgers Triple-A Farm team, the Montreal Royals. This was done in preparation of Jackie joining the Dodgers.  Jackie's first game with the Dodgers was on April 15, 1947.  This was the start of his legacy.
