Jackie Robinson

How Jackie Became Jackie

Jackie Robinson was born January 31, 1919.  He was born in the small town of Cairo, Georgia with his four siblings. Robinson's real name was Jack Roosevelt Robinson.  His middle name, Roosevelt, was named after President Theodore Roosevelt, who died twenty five days before Robinson was born.  In 1920, his family, excluding his father, moved to Pasadena, California.  This was a big event in his eventual arrival in the MLB because it gave him more competition in sports. He attended John Muir High School where he persued his love of athletics.Robinson played baseball, football, basketball, track, and tennis.

In his later years (Baseball Years) this experience of competitiveness of sports in Pasadena gave him the strength to be able to break the color barrier.  In his high school years, playing so many sports gave him an advantage over some players who only play one because he can use unique skills from each of the sports to help him when he started in the M.L.B.
