Jackie Robinson

Years With the Dodgers

Robinson's first season in the MLB was in 1947 where he played 2nd base for the Brooklyn Dodgers.  His stats for that year were remarkable. He had .297 average and 29 stolen bases. Having such a great year led him to become Rookie of the Year. His second season was just as impressive with a .296 average and almost doubled his Runs Batted in (RBI) total from the year before with 86. These two seasons were the most important seasons of his career because he was constantly challenged with adversity and having to prove himself. This led to more African Americans joining MLB which is why Robinson is one of the most important baseball players ever. Then in 1949, Robinson went wild.  He hit a .342 average, stealing 37 bases, and 124 RBI's. This year led to Robinson receiving one of the most coveted awards in the league, the MVP.
